I had always wanted to participate in a volunteering project, but I never really knew how to start or where to find an opportunity. That is why I feel very lucky to have begun my volunteering journey with this project. Thanks to this experience, I am learning about new cultures, meeting new people, and discovering different ways of living and thinking.
One of the most interesting parts for me was learning about marine life and environmental awareness. Before joining this project, I did not know what compost was or what it contained. Through the activities and workshops, I started to look at everything I consume from a completely different perspective. I learned how to separate food waste properly, reduce unnecessary waste, and understand how small daily actions can help nature and make a positive impact on the environment.
In addition, I heard about mariscadoras for the first time during this project. Learning about their lives, their hard work, and the challenges they face every day helped me understand and appreciate their profession much more deeply.
Volunteering has also helped me grow personally. Through this experience, I developed a stronger sense of responsibility towards people, nature, and myself. As an introverted person, I became much more social and open to communicating with others. At the same time, I improved my teamwork skills, learned how to take responsibility in group activities, and practiced another language in an international environment.
Overall, this project has been a very meaningful and unforgettable experience for me, both personally and socially.
