Volunteers in Solidarity Shores (SOLIDMAR) become part of an international initiative that works alongside local communities, fishers, mariscadoras, environmental organizations, and young people to address environmental and social challenges affecting coastal ecosystems.
The project is implemented through four volunteering teams, each composed of 30 volunteers, bringing together participants from different countries and backgrounds in a shared experience of solidarity, environmental action, and intercultural exchange. Through practical activities and community-based initiatives, volunteers contribute directly to marine conservation efforts while developing skills, gaining intercultural experience, and learning about the realities of coastal communities in Galicia.
During the volunteering experience, participants may be involved in:
Participating in coastal and marine clean-up actions
Supporting environmental awareness campaigns and community events
Assisting in workshops on sustainability, climate action, and marine conservation
Contributing to biodiversity monitoring and environmental data collection
Collaborating in circular economy initiatives and seafood waste recovery activities
Supporting educational activities with local schools and youth groups
Documenting stories and traditional knowledge shared by fishers and mariscadoras
Creating communication materials, including photos, videos, interviews, and social media content
Supporting the organization of Open Water Days and local community events
Participating in intercultural activities and teamwork initiatives

Meet our first team of volunteers
"I'm so glad I participated in this project. We not only worked physically in the field and did something truly tangible for the environment, but we also formed a fantastic team with people from different cultures." Ensar
"Volunteering helped me grow personally. Through this experience, I developed a stronger sense of responsibility towards people, nature, and myself. As an introverted person, I became much more social and open to communicating with others." Berra
"I am leaving this experience not only with knowledge about the environment but also with practical life skills, stronger confidence, and a clearer understanding of how to adapt and grow in new situations." Adrian
